HISTORY OF CONTACT

As early as the 1st Century a courier and transportation service was established in the Roman Empire by Augustus.

In 1497 a state run postal service was established within the Holy Roman Empire.

In Britain and Europe Kings and Queens sent letters by fast couriers on horseback. The Pope did the same. They could go anywhere in the country or across Europe to other heads of state.

Charles 1st made the Royal Mail Available to the public in 1635

In 1654 – Oliver Cromwell granted the monopoly of service in England to “Office of Postage

Later stage coaches travelled the length and breath of the British Isles carrying post.

Then came the age of the steam train and in 1830 the first mail train ran in the UK.

Carrier Pigeon

Another method used for carrying messages was carrier pigeon.  This was also used in the First and Second World Wars. There was even an official title of Government Carrier Pigeon Service. It has been proved they lives.

Modern Day

Moving quickly on and in the 1980´s internet was introduced to the public. Post was still popular but email messages started to gain a foothold. Slowly at first. Then came the growth in mobile phones and the smartphones.

With all his came social media, messages and instant messaging. Problems arising with the instant response rather than thinking before you write benefits of a letter. The other issue being the addiction to smartphones with people looking at it 100´s of times a day. Even situations where people are at the same dinner table texting each other.

The other issue is that many people have lost or never been taught how to properly talk or communicate with other people. Some think it is OK to hide behind a text and not have interactive constructive dialogue face to face or over the phone.
